1. Nomination by Committee

The deadline to submit your completed application to Golden Valley Electric Association is:

  • 5 p.m. on January 22, 2025 – The documents that must be submitted include:
    • Completed and Signed Application (see more information below)
    • Background Check Report (obtained via the State Troopers office in Fairbanks or Delta Junction)

2. Nomination by Petition

The deadline to submit your completed application to Golden Valley Electric Association is:

  • 9 a.m. on March 5, 2025 – The documents that must be submitted include:
    • Completed and Signed Application (see more information below)
    • Background Check Report (obtained via the State Troopers office in Fairbanks or Delta Junction)
    • Petition Signature Form (contact GVEA to obtain this form)

Note: GVEA will publish your candidate information verbatim when advertising this election. Staff will make no corrections for grammar, spelling, etc. Please make sure your submitted information has been proofread and is in the format you wish it to appear.

Next Steps

  • The Board Secretary, or his/her designee in the event the Secretary is a candidate, and a designated GVEA staff person will review applications to ensure they contain all required documentation and meet required eligibility. Applicants will be contacted if their application is incomplete.

Conflict of Interest Certification & Disclosure Statement

The undersigned candidate and/or Board member for the Board of Directors (“Board”) of Golden Valley Electric Association.:
  1. Affirms that the candidate has received, read and understands the most current version of GVEA’s Conflict of Interest Policy (Election Handbook, Section 13, Appendix A, page 36).
  2. Agrees to comply with the Conflict of Interest Policy 2.1.1.
  3. Based upon a good-faith belief, to the best of the candidate’s knowledge, and except for the material facts disclosed below, certifies that the candidate currently complies with the Conflict of Interest Policy.
  4. Discloses the following material facts known to the candidate regarding any actual or potential employment, income, competition, Conflict of Interest activity referenced in the Conflict of Interest Policy that could impact the candidate's compliance with the Policy.
  5. Agrees to immediately disclose to the Board any material facts that become known to the Candidate/Board Member regarding any actual or potential employment, income, competition, Conflict of Interest activity referenced in the Conflict of Interest Policy that could impact the Candidate/Board Member’s compliance with the Conflict of Interest Policy.

The candidate is responsible for obtaining their background check report directly from the Alaska State Troopers. The cost is $20/per report and generally can be obtained while waiting at the Alaska State Troopers office on Peger Road in Fairbanks or Deborah Street in Delta Junction, Alaska. The report must be uploaded with your application and must to be dated no earlier than 90 days prior to the application deadline. If pages are missing from the submitted report, or it appears altered in anyway, it will not be accepted.

Are you applying for nomination via Committee or petition?(Required)
Nomination by Committee requires being interviewed by your District's Nominating Committee, and official nomination by the committee thereafter. Nomination by petition requires 50 verified signatures from members of your District. Prior to beginning the petition process, the petitioner must contact GVEA staff to verify petitioner has a GVEA membership in their name for the district in which they are petitioning. Staff will then provide a Petition Signature Form, which has been approved by the Association’s Attorney.
